Ten Music Festival Survival Tips
Posted by Paul Clapham onIt's festival season, which can be such a fun experience but also overwhelming if you are under-prepared. Festivals are great but some of the downsides of camping in a field can make surviving a couple of days with your friends quite a challenge!
So, to try and make your experience as enjoyable as possible we’ve put together our top ten tips for surviving a music festival :)
1. Choose Your Crew Wisely
Sleeping in a tent, not having a proper shower and dealing with a potential hangover throughout your weekend at a festival means you need the right people around you. In particular, if you’re sharing a tent, choose to share with the people who are most like you in the hope that you’ll be on the same page when it comes to bed times, meal times and even toilet runs in the middle of the night!
2. Don’t Over-Pack
Bringing extra clothing for outfit changes throughout the day might seem like a good idea. However, when you’re dragging a huge bag through a muddy field 3 three days in, you might regret it. Pack light and bring only the essentials. You’ll be grateful later. Keep your (potentially) wet and muddy clothes separate from your clean clothes by bringing a bin bag.
3. Try to Get There Early
Getting to the festival field early means you won’t be left with a tent spot directly next to the toilets. Need we say more?
4. Camp Near a Landmark & Give Your Tent an Identity
Lots of people add flags to their tents to help them see where their spot is from far away. Get creative with your tent ID so you never get lost. Also, it’s a good idea to try to make friends with your neighbours for a bit of neighbourhood watch action while you’re away from your tent!
5. Protect Yourself from the Sun
Not always a consideration in the UK, but you never know! Better to be safe than sorry and end up with painful sunburn. Bring Sunglasses that block UV rays, a hat and sunscreen.
6. Style Yourself Simply in Dungarees
Obviously, we’re big fans of dungarees and there’s nowhere quite like a festival to nail this look. Not only do dungarees make life so much simpler (fewer items to pick and choose between) but they’re comfortable, cool and a classic music fest item. Style with trainers or even wellies and anything from a bikini top to a hoodie depending on how lucky you are with the weather!
7. Bring Extra Charge
Running out of phone battery on day one will really annoy you. Make sure you’re prepared with extra battery packs for all your electronics.
8. Don’t Forget Wet Wipes
One of the most important festival essentials is a pack of wet wipes. Bio-degradable wet wipes are now available which are kinder to the planet but merciless for make-up removal.
9. Don’t Leave Valuables in Your Tent
Avoid bringing anything with you that you aren’t ok to lose. It just seems to happen at festivals. And never leave valuables in your tent, even if you padlock the zip.
10. Have a Get Away Plan
An early or late exit might just save you from hours of queuing so plan how you’re going to get away ahead of time for a stress free departure.
Music festival tickets are expensive so it’s important that you really enjoy the experience and make the most of your time there. Give our top tips a try and hopefully you’ll have nothing else to worry about apart from singing along to your favourite bands and having fun!
